Meet Our Family -- Our Adoption Journey

Our Adoption Letter

Dear Friends,
We can’t know what you are going through right now, but we do know that we love you. We know you are strong, courageous, and you love your baby. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us, we are grateful for the opportunity to share ourselves with you.  We live in Alabama and are home study approved and ready to adopt again. We pray we will find each other soon.

OUR FAMILY
We would like to start by telling you about us as a couple. Our names are Andrew and Rheanna. We met through a church activity, and have been married for a wonderful 12 years. When we first met, I wasn't interested in Andrew (our first date ended with me crocheting a pot holder to keep my hands busy in order to avoid holding hands with Andrew). With some persistence from Andrew, and a change of heart from me, we were engaged a year later and married within three months. The first few years of our marriage were spent working hard to finish school. Andrew has a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy, and works as a pediatric therapist helping kids with disabilities. I have a Bachelors Degree in Family Science/Child Development. I have worked for several years as a nanny. Currently I love spending my time as a stay at home mom with our adorable sons, Brandt and Hunter. Brandt is our active 6 year old who loves to explore and learn about everything around him. Hunter is our sweet 2 1/2 year old who adores his big brother and loves being part of the action. Family time is important to us and we have developed lots of fun traditions that occur throughout the year. Some of our favorites include, campouts and the pumpkin patch in the fall, cutting down our own Christmas tree, an annual trip to the beach, and Easter egg hunts with cousins. We love to travel and let the boys experience new and exciting places.
You may wonder why we have decided to build our family through adoption. For several years we struggled with infertility and it was a very difficult time for us. Those years were filled with lots of doctor visits with no results. Yet through all the frustration and heartache we knew that God had a plan for our family. We feel so blessed to be able to be part of the miracle of adoption and we know it is right for us as a family.
Now we’d like to describe for you a little bit about our extended family. Rheanna has three brothers and one sister. She is the youngest in the family. I (Andrew) have two brothers and a sister. I am number three out of the four siblings (my sister is the oldest). Brandt loves that he has 30 wonderful cousins to play with, ranging in age from 20 years old to newborn. We both have a Mom and Dad who are kind, loving, and can’t wait for more grandkids to spoil. The majority of our extended family lives close, and we get together often for birthdays, holidays, family reunions, or just to goof off.

ALL ABOUT ANDREW
Let me (Rheanna) share with you the great things about Andrew. When Brandt and Hunter were each born there were many memorable moments. One of them was seeing my husband, my best friend, hold our sons for the first time. In that special moment when they looked at each other, I watched as his dream of becoming a father was realized. Andrew is an involved and hands on dad. Brandt and Hunter have a best buddy in Andrew and when our boys are ready to play hard, they look for their daddy. They wrestle, chase, play ball, race cars, and laugh as they have fun together. Another quality that I love is that he always treats me like a princess and makes me feel special. He always opens the door for me, showers me with genuine compliments, and loves me for who I am. Andrew is so much fun, silly most of the time, and will do anything to help friends. He is a patient, kind, and loving father, husband, and man.

ALL ABOUT RHEANNA
Now it’s my turn (Andrew) to tell you a little about Rheanna. The first thing I ever noticed about her is her big, beautiful smile. She is very outgoing, and has the ability to make friends with anyone she meets. One of Rheanna’s greatest gifts is her natural ability with children. She can immediately calm any baby and put them to sleep, but on the other hand can teach a room full of kids with games and fun for hours. She is a stay at home mom but she doesn’t just stay at home…Rheanna, Brandt and Hunter spend their week at the zoo, parks, hiking, story time at the library, daily walks with her mom and sister, and visits to the local science museum. As you can see, she always has something fun planned. Rheanna does a great job of teaching and helping Brandt and Hunter to explore the world around them. She always takes the extra time needed to show them how things work and to let them help in whatever she is doing. I am very lucky to have her in my life as my beautiful wife and as Brandt and Hunter's mother.

BRANDT
Brandt is now . He is thoughtful, kind, goofy, and so much fun. Brandt is all boy and ready to be a big brother again! He is constantly pointing out every baby we see and loves to hold our friends' babies and give them hugs. He really loves to spend time with all his cousins, and they all love to play together. Brandt is also a thinker. We are amazed at the questions he comes up with and how much he can soak up every day. He has an amazing memory and often talks about things he remembers from the past.  His favorite things to talk about include: his brother Hunter, his friends, Ninja Turtles, Superheros, Pokemon, and Star Wars. Some of his favorite things to do include playing sports (flag football, soccer,  swimming and diving), drawing, playing outside, watching cartoons, playing with his toys, playing with friends. He loves to always be on the move and play!

HUNTER
Hunter is 4 years old.  He has a smile that lights up the room and a personality to match it.  He is full of energy and never stops running.  Hunter is constantly on the go and is also our little climber. One of his favorite things on the playground is the climbing walls or large rocks. He also likes to have people around him and loves to play with all his cousins. Anything big brother is doing, he wants to be part of it, and Brandt is great at playing with him. Hunter loves throwing balls, playing with cars, gymnastics, Blaze and riding his big wheel. He is a chatter box and has a cute voice and will tell you exactly what he is thinking.  He also loves to dance. Any time he hears music, his shoulders, arms, and body start to wiggle. He is such a cutie!

OPENNESS AND ADOPTION
We feel so blessed that we have the privilege to add to our family through open adoption. Our experiences with Brandt and his birth mother, and Hunter and his birth mother are more than we could have ever asked for. They are very special to us. We love that both our boys will always know the special way they joined our family. We take lots of pictures and love to share them! It is important to us that your baby always knows his or her story, and how much you love them. Through adoption, our extended family just becomes bigger.  There is always room for more love in a child’s life.
Know that we are open to contact and visits, if it is something you want.  We talk about our love for adoption in our family, and our boys know their story, and the love of their birth families.  Adoption is LOVE.
